John Cooper was born on August 9, 1936 in Montgomery, Alabama to Mattie Lou and John Cooper Sr. John was the second oldest of six siblings; Mary, Carrol, Earl, Sam, Loretta. John was preceded in death by his mother and father and siblings Earl, Sam, Loretta and Carrol. Mary Marshall is now the living sibling.
He graduated from Carver High School in Montgomery, AL and attended Alabama State University where he graduated August 8, 1958. He received his BA in Secondary Education and he was also a member of the ASU Alumni Association.
He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years at the 502nd Co Ft. Hood, TX, where he was a sharpshooter and as a Payroll Clerk. After his military service, he met then Carolyn Emma Henry and married her.
He worked in Chicago, IL at the Board of Education for more than 30 yrs as a computer programmer. He retired in the late 90s.Along with his career endeavors, John was involved in the Boy Scouts as a troop leader for years. He was involved in a number of organizations. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and he was involved in a Genealogy Group where he would travel to obtain historical information and a longtime member of Messiah St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Carolyn Cooper. He was the adored father of John III, Cedric and Andre. He is also survived by two grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
