Mrs. Catherine Harrington

Born Into Time: October 01, 1947
Born Into Eternity: November 30, 2017

Catherine (Dismukes) Harrington was on born October 1, 1947 in Macon, Mississippi to the union of Erby Dismukes, Jr. and Dorothy Dixon.   She was the first born of six children. Both parents and a sister, Donna (Harold) Bearden preceded her in death.

Catherine attended Metropolitan Community Church for many years where she was baptized at an early age. She sang in the Junior choir, served as an usher and was an active member of the W.D. Cook Gospel choir.

In 2002, Catherine joined Covenant United Church of Christ where she faithfully served in the Women’s Fellowship and Girls Mentoring ministries.

Catherine was a loyal member of the International Order of Kings Daughters and Sons Workers for the King Circle and for the Cook County Union providing scholarships to college bound students.

Catherine was educated in the Chicago Public School System where she attended Herman Felsenthal and John Farren Elementary Schools. She graduated from DuSable High School in 1965. It was there, at DuSable, that she met her high school sweetheart, Michael Harrington. On September 3, 1966 they were united in holy matrimony. To their union four children were born. Two children, Michael Harrington, Jr. and Kevin Harrington, Sr. preceded her in death.

Catherine worked at Chicago State University for many years. While working at CSU she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business of Art and Independent Studies in 1989. She worked at USG Corporation in the property department until she retired. After retirement she worked at South Holland Community Center as the Office Manager.

Catherine spent her life proclaiming the wonderful works of Jesus Christ. She was known for her infectious smile and soft spoken loving demeanor. She loved family and was an active committee member for the Dixon-Hughes Family Reunion for over thirty years until her health failed her.

Catherine was a praying woman with a powerful anointing. She loved the Lord and knew without a doubt that prayer changes things and that there is nothing too hard for God! She often quoted the scripture to her children and others, Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

God called Catherine home to receive her crown on November 30, 2017, leaving to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted husband of 51 years, Michael Harrington, Sr.; two loving daughters, Terica (Chad) Daniel and Tamara (Hazem) Dawkins; two brothers, Joe Dismukes and Erby (Angelique) Dismukes III; two sisters, Joyce (Loren) Miller and Teresa Dismukes; five grandchildren, Kevin (KJ) Harrington, Jr., Zion Dawkins, Sydnei Harrington, Zahem Dawkins and Zekhi Dawkins; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, one goddaughter, Latrisa Johnson, and longtime friends, Irma Eggert and Yvette Davis.

Wonderful, joyous memories and her encouraging words will forever be cherished by many.
