Mr. Lester William Tally

Born Into Time: June 08, 1938
Born Into Eternity: May 25, 2017

Lester W. Tally was born June 8, 1938 in Detroit Michigan. He was the only child of the late Lester and Tyneskia Tally. Lester grew up in a warm and loving home with both his parents until the untimely death of his father Lester E. Tally, who died in an automobile accident in 1957. Lester was a dedicated son with unwavering love for his mother who he took care with the help of his two children, Derek and Celeste until her passing in 2009.

Lester graduated from Chadsey Senior High School in Detroit Michigan, and went on to attend Wayne State University where he pledged and remained a faithful member of Kappa Alpha Psi and graduated with both his Bachelors and Master’s Degree in Education. During those undergraduate years at Wayne State, Lester met Sharon E. Scott who became the love of his life. Lester courted Sharon until they were married on January 28, 1961 in Chicago, IL. To this union of thirteen years, they were blessed with two beautiful children, Lester D. Tally and Celeste D. Tally.

Lester went on to teach in both the Detroit and Chicago public school systems. He was dedicated to elementary and high school special education and general education students. Lester retired from the Chicago Board of Education as an English teacher in 2011.

Lester had a passion for knowledge and specifically language, education, health and the great mysteries of death, life and the Universe…he became a master linguist by discovering the hidden meanings within all words and unveiled multiple dimensions of understanding that has never been seen before. His teachings were profound and impacted the lives of those who listened and wanted to learn. Lester dedicated his time to his studies but it was always his pleasure to share this knowledge with his family.

Lester was the definition of an alpha male with a strong will and courageous spirit. He was a natural-born leader, provider and protector who was always ready, willing and able to provide his guidance to his loved ones.

On May 25, 2017, “Boycie” as he was affectionately known, made his transition.

Lester challenges his family to now find the strength and courage to love and support each other and honor his legacy. The weight of his loss will always be felt but Lester would say, I have taught you everything you need to know and I am not worried about my family making it in life. Our mandate is to carry on and honor our father with what he constantly preached to us on a daily basis which was to tell the truth, take ownership of your actions and forgive those who do not know, because if they knew better then they would do better.

Lester leaves to celebrate his memory, a faithful and loving (son) Lester D. Tally, (daughter) Celeste D. Tally, (widow) Sharon E. Tally, (grandchildren) Calia R. Tally and Serena E. Tally-Kirkwood (Sir-Matthew Kirkwood), (Great Grand Children) Sydney, Sir Vale, Sirus and Sir Virious, and a host of loving cousins and other family members stemming from both the Tally and Grandberry family.
